IFTA TEXAS

STATE REQUIREMENTS IFTA TEXAS LICENSES
Texas joined the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) along with 47 other states and 10 Canadian provinces. IFTA was created to simplify the process of registering, collecting and disbursing fuel taxes between jurisdictions. If your vehicle(s) qualifies for and operates in more than one IFTA jurisdiction, you must obtain an IFTA license and decals, which allow you to travel between member jurisdictions.
FIRST, YOU MUST DETERMINE IF YOUR VEHICLE(S) QUALIFY.
A qualified vehicle is one that is designed, maintained, and used to transport persons or property, and meets the following provisions:
- Has two axles and a GVW or registered GVW that exceeds 26,000 pounds, or;
- Used in combination when the weight of such combination is more than 26,000 pounds GVW or registered GVW, or;
- It has three axles, regardless of weight.
