MC NUMBER

WHAT IS AN MC NUMBER?
An MC number (motor carrier number) is also an interstate operating authority and a unique identifier assigned by the FMCSA to movers that operate in interstate commerce, in other words, the transportation of freight across state lines. However, while all interstate movers are required to have and display a USDOT number on their commercial carriers, not all movers need an MC number. What is the difference between USDOT numbers and MC numbers? The types of engines needed to achieve them.
WHO NEEDS AN MC NUMBER?
Some interstate businesses need an MC number in addition to a USDOT number. Businesses operating as for-hire carriers that transport passengers or federally regulated commodities across state lines must also obtain an Interstate Operating Authority MC number. Contract carriers that only transport cargo that is not regulated by the federal government generally do not need to have an MC number.
